Landscape

Prompt: Draw a landscape of the view from Rim Drive on the campus. Use graphite and shading to create value and contrast.

Postcards

Prompt: Draw from your current life events to create a postcard. Utilize perspective, abstraction, realism, or other skills we’ve developed to make it.

A family member was having heart problems that caused intense dizzy spells. I created an abstract representation of what dizzy spells might look like.

Fingerprint

Prompt: Create an abstract drawing using oil pastels.

Reach Out

In class skill development: Work with abstraction and chalk pastels to expand on skills.

Memorized Room

Prompt: Using the skills you’ve developed in perspective, draw a room from your childhood that exists in your memory. Use shading, perspective, and the elements of the room to communicate a feeling (sad, happy, intense, scary… etc).

I drew my childhood bedroom from the perspective of the bed. I had nightmares frequently as a child, and the recurring one was a large figure sitting on the end of my bed, towering over me. I wanted to communicate this feeling of subtle threat without imminent danger, which is often a key element of nightmares.

Prompt: Choose a style of drawing to create a final image that speaks to you. Include a minimum of 5 recognizable objects that have some significance to you.

I chose to focus my final on the idea of memories slipping. In my drawing I included items from passed family members like the geode clock, flowers, necklaces.. etc. The drawing exemplifies the feeling of breaking and losing memories as you try to relive them. Everything gets more and more distorted as we try to relive and remember it, thus those times are slipping.
